woah I did my first ever burlesque show ! Was really fun, definitely a different performance style than I'm used to with my drag (it's easier to hide behind silliness when you mess up in drag!) but doing some draggy makeup definitely helped regardless- having a stage persona/ look is amazing for getting past performance nerves. I started burlesque at the recommendation of a drag queen friend, and it's been fun to incorporate some of the stripping moves into my drag :3
I believe I was the only male performer for this show- I find the term 'boylesque' so sweet haha- and at times it's felt a little isolating+ dysphoric starting out in such a female-dominated dance style, but I'm hoping that as I practice for longer and perform more (and maybe choreograph some dances of my own), I'll figure out how to move in a way which feels more gender-queer and 'me'!
